Jiu Jitsu
Jiu-Jitsu or "the gentle art" originated in Japan and was brought to Brazil in the early part of the century by the great champion Mitsuyo Maeda. One of his students, a renowned boxer named Carlos Gracie, quickly modified the classical Jiu-Jitsu techniques to meet the needs of real , "no rules" street fighting, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was born. Carlos taught his style to his four younger brothers ( Oswaldo, Gastao, Jorge, and Helio) and to his older sons (including Carlson and Carley) who in turn taught their brothers, sons, grandsons, nephews, and students. Weapons
The Bo, or Staff, is probably one of the first weapons that mankind used to defend himself. The history of the bo dates back thousands of years, and is thought to be used first in China. It could easily be found, easy to handle, and could be used for multiple purposes. The bo staff itself is believed to have been developed from the tenbin, a pole balanced on the shoulders, used to carry buckets hanging from each end with water or grain.
